2020 Hyundai Santa Fe Diesel Seven-Seat Specs, Engine, Review, & Redesign – When Hyundai announced the all-new 2019 Santa Fe for the United States, the headlines were all about the SUV becoming the brand’s first model to feature a diesel engine. The carmaker primarily arranged to provide a 2.2-liter diesel engine as a possibility for the 2020 model year. Fast forward to later 2018 and it seems that Hyundai’s approach modified dramatically. Hyundai spokesman, Brandon Ramirez, told Green Car Reports that the diesel-powered Santa Fe won’t be arriving at the U.S. soon after all.
Based to the rep, Hyundai canceled the power plant as scientific studies pointed out the buyers’ reluctance to have a turbo diesel engine in a crossover. The existing low gas prices and the advent of electrification possibly didn’t assist the Santa Fe Diesel’s case both.
The shift comes after a related determination from Kia before this year to cancel the 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine for the Sorento. An indirect final result of that determination is the Santa Fe won’t provide a three-row version sometimes, Ramirez confirmed. That’s simply because the seven-seat Santa Fe was first prepared to be offered exclusively with the diesel engine.
In the future, consumers will require to step up to the 2020 Palisade when they want a three-row SUV from Hyundai – the existing 2019 Santa Fe XL is based on the past-generation model and will likely be changed by the Palisade for 2020. Without diesel-powered Santa Fe on the horizon, Hyundai may well supply a plug-in hybrid version in the future. The only main carmakers that currently provide diesel-powered SUVs and crossovers in the United States are Chevrolet, GMC, Jeep, and Land Rover.
